What is Video Production?
The Video Production and Broadcasting class is an all-year course that introduces students to the power of storytelling through the creation of video. Students will produce the weekly RTV broadcast of announcements and school related segments. Students interested in all aspects of video production (acting, script writing, editing, directing, producing, etc.) will find this class exciting and challenging. Students in this class will also learn and develop team building skills, communication, and leadership responsibilities.
What skills do I need to be successful in this class?
This class will teach you many of the technical skills required to produce quality videos, such as how to handle camera and sound equipment, story writing, interviewing skills, video software and more. You are not required to have these technical skills, but if you do, it will be helpful.
However, you MUST HAVE a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. That means you are dedicated to getting work done, meeting deadlines and working through problems. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A STRONG WORK ETHIC AND A POSITIVE ATTITUDE, PLEASE RECONSIDER YOUR ELECTIVE CHOICE. It will save both you and the video production crew from unnecessary frustration.
What is the criteria for success?
Students will work through the three major phases of video production: pre-production (planning, preparing), production (filming, acting) and post-production (editing)/ Grades will reflect overall performance and mastery of skills through assignments, projects, and tests. Students will be expected to meet deadlines, especially since the RTV Broadcast contains time-sensitive information and news.
