Course Description:
In this year-long course, students will explore the basics of visual art through a variety of mediums and techniques. Designed for beginners, this class offers a hands-on, creative experience where students will learn fundamental art concepts and develop their artistic skills. Over the course of the year, students will engage in projects that cover a range of materials including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital media, among others.

Throughout the class, students will be encouraged to experiment with different tools and artistic approaches, while building confidence in expressing their ideas visually. Emphasis will be placed on the creative process, from brainstorming and sketching to completing a finished artwork. In addition to hands-on practice, students will also learn about famous artists, art history, and the role of art in different cultures.

By the end of the year, students will have gained a basic understanding of various artistic techniques and will have created a portfolio of their own work, showcasing their growth and creativity.

  • Drawing: Techniques, composition, shading, and perspective

  • Painting: Color theory, blending, and acrylic techniques

  • Sculpture: Basic sculpting methods with clay, wire, and recycled materials

  • Printmaking: Introduction to stamps, stencils, and basic print processes

  • Digital Art: Exploring digital tools for creative expression (if technology is available)

  • Art History: Studying different art movements and artists that have influenced visual art

Goals:

  • Develop basic technical skills in multiple art mediums

Materials Needed:
Students will be provided with basic supplies for the majority of projects. A list of additional materials may be provided as needed for specific projects.

Assessment:
Students will be evaluated on participation, effort, creativity, and the completion of both individual and group projects. Reflection on their work and improvements over time will also be part of the assessment process.
